Genevieve’s area of practice is financial services regulation. She advises financial institutions on the broad spectrum of Singapore financial regulatory rules and regulations and supports clients in securing the requisite approvals, authorisations or exemptions as well as ongoing compliance issues. She also advises generally on anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing and data privacy matters.
Prior to joining the Firm, she was a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel at the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore where she oversaw complex white-collar investigations and prosecutions, and worked closely with law enforcement agencies such as the Commercial Affairs Department and the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau. She also trained in commercial and criminal litigation in private practice where she represented clients in commercial disputes, advised clients on white collar investigations and conducted their defence in criminal proceedings.
- Assisting various entities with their applications to MAS for major payment institution licences;
- Advising an MAS-registered reinsurance broker on its restructuring plans and assisting with obtaining approval from MAS for a change in control over the entity;
- Overseeing complex cross-border investigations involving a global payment processing company and its subsidiaries for suspected fraud and money laundering, as well as related proceedings concerning production orders and the recovery of assets suspected to be linked to fraud;
- Overseeing investigations and proceedings against a bunkering company, its officers and employees for cheating offences involving more than US$8 million as well as money laundering offences;
- Conducting multiple trials involving offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Money-changing and Remittance Businesses Act and the Securities and Futures Act as well as criminal breach of trust;
- Advising an officer of a listed company concerning investigations into suspected criminal offences for falsification of accounts, forgery and conspiracy to cheat;
- Representing multiple clients in proceedings relating to private sector corruption offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and securing punishments of fines on their behalf;
- Acting for an accused person convicted of drug trafficking in an application to commence judicial review proceedings; and
- Representing a client in a High Court suit to recognise and enforce a foreign judgment as well as to try the underlying claims amounting to US$200 million.
