Construction and engineering projects are a complex undertaking, involving multiple stakeholders at any one time, often from different jurisdictions. This is especially so with modern-day projects placing greater emphasis on the need to address ESG concerns. A keen understanding of the industry and the law is, therefore, required when navigating the terrain. Our Construction & Projects Practice has experience in all aspects of construction and infrastructure project work from inception to implementation.
We have advised clients on contracts and project documents which are widely used within the industry (such as SIA and PSSCOC). Our practice has also advised on niche contracts, with a recent uptick in “eco-friendly” contracts such as the wide-scale installation of chargers for electric vehicles and smart systems that promote energy savings. Working closely with our Corporate Real Estate and Corporate Banking Practices, we provide clients with a comprehensive range of legal solutions for cross-disciplinary construction and infrastructure matters involving property, conveyancing and financing aspects.
We have deep expertise in contentious construction and projects work as well, having acted as lead counsel in various domestic and international arbitration, litigation, mediation, adjudication and other methods of dispute resolution. Amongst others, we have been instructed to act as lead counsel in urgent matters which arise in the midst of construction / engineering projects such as adjudication proceedings under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2004, Court applications to restrain the calling of performance bonds, and Court-ordered easements. We also have experience advising on and acting in MCST disputes and Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act matters.
Over the years, we have advised a wide array of clients including construction companies, real estate investment trusts, property developers, oil and gas companies and government-linked companies.
