Ng Yeow Khoon specialises in banking & finance-related litigation, insolvency and restructuring and general commercial litigation. He regularly advises and has acted for many of the major local and foreign banks and financial institutions in Singapore in their banking disputes and insolvency matters.

Yeow Khoon’s area of practice also includes debt restructuring, schemes of arrangement, judicial management and liquidation (both voluntary and compulsory).

Matter Experience


  • Acted for United Overseas Bank in successfully defending a customer’s claim against the Bank for negligence and vicarious liability for alleged fraudulent misrepresentations by the Bank’s relationship manager. The customer’s claim for damages to be borne by the Bank in respect of his investment losses was dismissed by the Singapore High Court;
  • Acted for DBS Bank in the Liquidators’ application to the High Court for determination of the method of distribution of the proceeds arising from the sale of stock which were held on trust by Pars Ram Brothers (Pte) Ltd on behalf of the creditor banks which had extended trust receipts financing to the Company;
  • Successfully acted for Internech Systems in resisting the Liquidator’s claim for a banker’s guarantee procured by LaserResearch to be cancelled. The case involved the High Court’s interpretation of whether a legal action against an insolvent company which has been automatically stayed under the Companies Act is subject to the automatic discontinuance provision under the Rules of Court;
  • Successfully acted for UBS AG in their claim against their customers. The customers’ counterclaim against UBS AG for their investment losses were dismissed by the Court. The case involved whether a financial institution owed a duty of care to their customers under contract and tort in respect of their investments;
  • Successfully acted for Maybank in both the High Court and the Court of Appeal to uphold the validity of their mortgage notwithstanding the mortgagors’ claim that the mortgage should be set aside on the grounds of fraud and forgery perpetuated by the borrower;
  • Successfully acted for the Receivers and Managers of Bakery Mart Pte Ltd in the Company’s application to set aside a consent judgment entered into by the Receivers and Managers;
  • Acted for the Receivers and Managers of Bakery Mart Pte Ltd in the Garnishee proceedings taken out by Sincere Watch Limited against the Third Party who was a director of Bakery Mart Pte Ltd; and
  • Assisted in DBS Bank’s successful defence against their customer’s claim against them for negligence and breach of mandate in respect of his forged signature. The High Court’s decision in favour of DBS Bank was subsequently upheld by the Court of Appeal.
